Anand Sharma

Anand Sharma started his journalism career with Dainik Jagran in 1990 as a Crime Reporter.
He served in this role until 2002, when he was promoted to Chief Reporter in the Agra Unit.
In 2008, he transitioned to the Meerut Unit as Deputy News Editor.
On August 15, 2009, he returned to the Agra Unit as Editorial Head.
In May 2016, he was promoted to Senior News Editor at the Kanpur Unit, overseeing the Central UP and Bundelkhand Zone.
In 2019, he was diagnosed with cancer but successfully fought the disease, leading to a brief hiatus.
He resumed work in 2020 at Dainik Jagran’s Noida Unit, where he continued until 2021.
Currently, he is focused on developing his own digital media platform

He was one of the first journalists to give live coverage of riots from Agra and Aligarh. 

The Samajwadi Party Chief, Mulayam Singh Yadav, contested the much feared and violent election from the Etawah constituency that attracted the entire national press because of its nature and implications. In the same, he was sent on behalf of Dainik Jagran, Agra to cover this election. 

After the controversial structure at Ram Janam Bhoomi, Ayodhya was reduced to ruins, riots broke out in the entire Agra region. He was deputed as Crime Reporter to cover and visit the sensitive areas and was later on acclaimed for the deep insight and in-depth and unbiased reporting. 

He reported the true and actual story of the sensational kidnapping and dramatic release of the owner of Commercial Motors, from Lucknow (supposedly released from Firozabad District in an encounter) that was unearthed in what is till date considered as an exemplary episode of investigative journalism at Dainik Jagran. The impact can be assessed by the fact that even S.P (city) was transferred on account of misinformation and for misleading the department. 

Yamuna Action Plan –I, that had a budget of 77 Crores for Agra, was embroiled in a scam. The initial investigation of the same was done by him which became another feather in his cap of investigative journalism. A number of senior Officers were also suspended by the U.P Government in relation with this scam. 

Vishva Hindu Parishad called for its workers to conduct Vishnu Mahayagya near Sri Krishna Janam Bhoomi, Mathura. This created very strong communal tension in the entire state as the proposed Yagya was close to the mosque and the chances of another Ayodhya incident occurring were very high. He stayed in the sensitive region for fifteen days to do first hand spot reporting. 

One of the most tragic train accidents happened at Firozabad, where more than a thousand people died, as two passenger trains collided. On spot reporting for the same for all editions of Dainik Jagran was done by him. 

He once again reported one of the most infamous murders to have hit the headlines in the last decade, that is, The Personal Point Murder Case in New Delhi, the Capital of India. He brought the missing and vital link of the case regarding the place of murder of the two girls to light after a much-appreciated investigation based on a small clue. The story featured in the national press. 

He investigated the presence of ISI network in Agra and Aligarh and published detailed stories in Dainik Jagran with subsequent follow-ups. 

He has gained experience as a TV reporter too. He anchored the weekly program called Jawabdehi produced by Agra Diary for IN Cable-Net. The program in its short span of 6 weeks had become one of the most popular locally produced programs because of its bold nature and deep insight and had featured many local prominent personalities. 

A few years later, he also anchored a program on Zee News, discussing the politics in Agra with former and then MPs like Raj Babbar, Nihal Singh Jain and Bhagwan Shankar Rawat.

There were some major events that happened and were covered by him in the year 2000. First, he had investigated and unfolded the underlying strings of 200 crores TTZ scam and unveiled the hidden facts. Second, on 28 April, 2000, the Army Ordinance Depot at Sewar Town, 4 km from Bharatpur, was engulfed in a major fire. The Army and the Civil Authorities had evacuated all residents within a 10-km radius of the site. He reported from the spot. Third, there was Rs. 200 Crores Land Scam, which was exposed in a series of articles as a result of which the land was released by the land mafias in Agra.

As a Chief Reporter he exposed the Taj Corridor Scam, an intriguing plan by BSP government, which finally led to the diminished status of BSP Party headed by Smt. Mayawati. Millions and millions of rupees were involved in that scam.

He along with his team, made groundbreaking efforts to expose scam in higher education of the State. Few school students were caught red handed evaluating the answer sheets of medical students of Ch. Charan Singh University, Meerut. Star News declared it to be the biggest scam in the field of higher education. 

He took an exclusive interview of the Ex-Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh and Member of Parliament, Mr. Akhilesh Yadav, and the LoP, Mr. Rahul Gandhi, on the topic of the then upcoming assembly election in UP.

  • He has interviewed various celebrities, politicians and actors, notably, Rahul Gandhi, Akhilesh Yadav, Sean Connery, Amir Khan, Baba Ramdev, Kailash Kher and Raju Srivastava.
  • He was tasked with the coverage of American President, Bill Clinton and Princess of Whales, Diana, during their respective visits to India.
  • He was exclusively invited by the WWE team for the coverage of the WWE Wrestle Mania held in San Jose, California where he interviewed several famous wrestlers like John Cena, Roman Reigns, Brock Lesnar, Nikki Bella, Brie Garcia and others
  • He organized a very successful, first of its kind, conference for Uttar Pradesh Police on ‘Cyber Crime and Cyber Laws’ at Hotel Jaypee Palace, Agra with more than 2000 participants.
  • He was part of a group of leading journalists from all over India, invited by the Malaysian Government, to prepare a detailed report on ‘Possibilities of Indian Tourism in Malaysia’.
  • He was the key member of the Senior Journalist’s team to Kozhikode, Kerala on ‘World Bank Project for Sanitation and Drinking Water’. He conducted surveys and prepared a report on the same.
  • He was tasked with reporting the Agra Summit, which was a historic two-day Summit between India and Pakistan, held from 14th to16th July 2001, which was participated by the then Prime Minister of India, Mr. Atal Bihari Vajpayee and President of Pakistan, Mr. Pervez Musharraf. It was organized with the aim of resolving long-standing issues between India and Pakistan.
  • He helped in organizing the annual drawing and painting competition organized by Aakriti (a very prominent NGO) in association with the Police Department. It was the biggest event of its kind in U.P where more than 12,000 children participated every year.
